I publish 2 or 3 times a week, but I often bulk write short pieces for weeks where life gets away from me. I try and do at least one big Penguin style story every few week, but realistically it's usually about every two or three, because the blowback and replies get quite draining. That said, I was cultivating an active comments section before such things were monetised.
My big well written pieces tend to earn more - and get boosted more often than smaller pieces, but that's because the read time and content pushes readers to both finish and comment. Smaller pieces are more fun to write - and they tick along most of the time. Occasionally something small and snarky will do exceptionally well out of the blue and it simply confirms that neither I, nor anyone else, knows what's happening. I'm fine with that, randomised reward is a great motivator.
Plus, I have been known to take an entire month or two off for shits and giggles - and because life gets busy sometimes. You can pick up where you left off fairly easily, so I'd push for quality over quantity any day. I know you're not new, but i've seen newer writers burn out when they've decided to be billionaires as a result of running before they can walk.
