I really struggled with her, I just don’t care that much about social commentary and I don’t think people getting colds and occasionally fainting or storming out of tea parties is interesting. You don’t have to like everything I suppose, but I prefer my classics a bit more plot centric. I don’t think it holds a candle to Les Miserables or some of the better Dickens… but at least it’s not Middlemarch, a book so turgid I use the Audible version as an antidote to insomnia; just enough Juliet Stevenson to feel relaxed and nothing approaching an interesting event across any random chapter I pick.
