I set up a publication to publish the majority of my work. I occasionally send pieces to publications if they are specialist, but those are always publications with a low bar to entry. Either the editors have stated they’ll pretty much put it through on a wink or a nod (Feedium) or they have a high niche factor (Lessons From History).

Self publishing most things since I got here has done me no harm at all to my mind. There’s very little difference between my self published pieces and things elsewhere. It doesn’t factor in. The idea that we somehow need publications has been peddled from god knows where and I can’t abide having things stuck in draft or jumping though formatting hoops to match a house style. No thanks, life is too short and arduous at the best of times.
