I suppose that is true, but I wouldn’t say that was the Islamic community anymore than I think the average Irish person I meet is part of the IRA. For the most part of the 20th Century it was the Irish who were ‘terrorists’ here — they saw themselves as freedom fighters and they saw the Brits as fair game. We have to be very careful with ascribing the extreme beliefs of a radicalised few to the peaceful plenty. If nothing else it helps with the radicalisation process and becomes self defeating. The IRA didn’t speak for or act as a representation of all Irish people or even Irish communities and we should not get drawn into the same false equivalence based on skin colour and belief system alone.
