I suspect he probably didn’t, at least not actively. In my experience of child protection work such abuse is usually motivated by power and often frustration.The Finkelhor model of abuse explains more and is worth looking at.

However, what I am interested in finding out is whether it is morally correct to hate a group based on the actions of some members. It might be. I’m open minded. SC’s response to my question is valid if a little depressing but suggests yes, that hatred does extend to boys within a society like ours.

I am entirely of the opinion that if you throw words out for public consumption that you must a) defend them and b) deal with the consequences of doing so. This piece was always going to upset men, it calls them out and makes the case against them. It’s not the only piece of writing on Medium to do that - if I were cynical (and I am) I would suggest it is a very easy way to monetise outrage. That is part of the reason why I’m interested to know if the author genuinely thinks these things or whether she is saying they. If she hates ‘men’ she must also define men.
