I suspect this is true and this does have to be factored into the conversation. However, there does have to be an acknowledgement that prior experiences of participants doesn't necessarily help them become the best proponents of change. Sometimes the victims of a system need to inform change - but they often shouldn't be the people framing the discussion.
I understand why people write angry pieces and I fully appreciate many people have prior experience which is relevant. But relevant and helpful are not always the same thing. This is true whenever there is a contentious issues to write about, whether that's trans-rights, feminism, racism or any other problems society needs to contend with.
