I think a bit of health scepticism of institutionalised authority is definitely warranted. I can see the same thing playing out over here with our young people. Almost all the children I taught were politically on the left - but almost all of them were incredibly easily led into identity politics. I think exchanging institutionalised authority for moral authority might not be the panacea we're hoping it will be.
I've been listening to Revolutions - the Mike Duncan podcast, recently and I recommend everyone listens to the season on the French Revolution. It's a fascinating parallel to our own time and an interesting insight into how quickly change can manifest and how speedily things can go south.
I share some of your optimism, but not all of it. It feels like a generation of Greta Thunberg, she's rhetoric heavy but plan light, a generation of protestors with no pragmatism. Fine at fifteen, but angry rage can only get you so far in the adult world and without a strategy or ability to negotiate I can see this generation tripping itself up pretty quickly.
Whatever happens, it's going to be interesting times :o)
