I think it's a lot more complicated than your suggesting and I think people are basically just stupid. We had this problem when Depp was accused, every idiot who could use a keyboard went online in a show of faux-activism to denounce him using all the judgment skills they could have. They announced his guilt to the world, and anyone who questioned them was thrown under the bus of their righteous ire.

Fast forward half a decade and we're back where we started, but in reverse. The same idiots (and some new ones) have taken the opposite position and are proclaiming the same thing.

I actually believe both of them - and that's complicated, because I think she is an unreliable narrator (which doesn't mean she'e lying) and the testimony by Dr. Curry will tell you why that might be the case. I think they're both highly dysfunctional people and what they needed was to be able to disengage quietly without any input from the general public - or some gentle coaxing from activists to write an op ed. What we've got is a supercharged and pointless debate and a no-score draw.

You can show compassion to both without picking a side. It's not easy, but it can be done. https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/how-amber-heard-crashed-the-course-of-feminism-c0ec43ff7a52
