I think mathematics and art are fundamentally linked at their core, both are a product of human creativity. Things like music are a perfect blend of the two. We have just become very prescriptive as a species in believing they are separate and using them in separate spheres. I love the creativity of words, but nobody has been able to inspire me with the creativity of mathematics and I think that's a shame. :o)
