I think men should be spending a lot more time studying people like 'The Rock' for their fix on how to be a good human. He seems genuinely nice, motivated and functional. I'm sure as soon as I've finished this comment he'll be arrested for beating teenagers or something - but from what I can see thus far, he's a great role model for men in general.

I don't think it's entirely fair to say that most toxic men have disengaged from women... they will have mothers, grandmothers and sisters. There's an unhealthy pattern arising there and it's coming from the messages they get about the worth of men and women more generally. That might be a result of an overtly 'masculine' childhood or it might be a kickback at a maladaptive and overly 'feminine' childhood which didn't meet their needs as young men and left them angry and resentful. Many of the men who join these sorts of groups tend to be 'nice' - they've become disenfranchised with their lot and see people in more masculine and toxic ways doing better than they are. They overcorrect and overcompensate.... of all the men I know, the most likely to fall into these traps are those who have wives and girlfriends who are covert narcissistic in nature and who's need to be looked after and cared for can never be satiated. Once discarded, these men become willing converts for people like Tate.

I think much of the interplay between men and women, particularly when viewed longditudinally over the last fifty years is causing part of the problem. Feminism, by its very nature, sows the seeds of change - and we should help both men and women adapt to this change. If we don't, then we'll find that the extremes of the two groups will dominate the conversation and leave moderates with very little space to manoeuvre.
