I think MLK requires a special distinction - because his arguments were socialist arguments rather than identity arguments. I'm not convinced MLK would fit neatly into the BLM movement in the way many people think he would. I suspect he'd be in team Bernie Sanders.

Social media has moved the concept of power from an economic argument into a less loosely defined set of concepts around identity. This hasn't strengthened anyones position, rather has pitted different people from the same economic class against each other and allowed a resurgence of the political right. It was a huge mistake and continues to be a huge mistake to allow social media led movements to dominate the conversation and dictate accountability. It undermines the rule of law and the fabric of society itself.

I'd argue in a capitalist society, the acquisition of wealth is the acquisition of power. The more you have, the more say you have. Not necessarily within the individual, but within the structures that govern individual decisions. It's not that Trump or Pelosi are bad per se, it's that they are easily influenced by the monetary arguments and cannot escape the implications of making decisions in this way.

I can't see a way out of it - but I can see the benefit of a shift back towards redistribution of wealth via taxes from the wealthy to the poor. That's how you improve everything and everyone's lot in life. :o)
