I think people forget that Medium is an experiment in community writing. It gets things wrong, it gets things right. This current push towards experts will come crashing down as they lose some of their most interesting voices and become a left-wing University space. That's dull. When Medium becomes any one particular thing it gets dull.... and Medium writers also need to take note of the fact we're in the minority. Most people come here to read. They come here to learn thing, or be entertained, or watch some intelligent people joust in a blood sport of words.

The words always win out - but it ebbs and it flows in different directions. Every few years the big wigs flounce off, it's par for the course these days and those of us who have been around have seen this cycle many times. You don't need to dream about being a writer, if you're a writer - you'll write. Get those drafts out into the world and move onto the next one. It's an awfully big adventure. :o)
