I think that article is bang on and the writing is excellent. Mainstream feminism is in the process of becoming less and less appealing to more and more of the allied groups. That includes some men and some women of colour. For men like me, the tone and rhetoric has become less nuanced and more misandrist in nature.
There’s one particular author who is always featured on the homepage who does this very well — but never provides any solutions answers or insights. It’s just banging the drum and basking in the support of likeminded people. She specialises in a sort of call to arms and playing to the crowd and offers no real discussion or insight. I’d rather read Sidra any day.
I think she (Sidra) has summed up her position pretty well too, and feminism is slowly tearing itself apart like many leftist movements. If you’re interested in my centrist position then you can find reference to some of the stuff in this article. Don’t feel obligated to read it.
One of the things that I like most about Medium is the restraint and politeness you find on here compared with other social media. We have much to learn from each other and much to debate — so thanks for keeping it friendly and thanks for introducing me to Sidra’s work. It hadn’t blipped on my radar up until this point. :o)
