I think that Tim Scott does an excellent job of articulating the reason why he's a Republican. He believes in Capitalism and free market economics, his Grandfather was an illiterate cotton picker who lived to see his Grandson be elected to the senate. In Tim Scott's world, the Democratic approach does very little to encourage people to pull themselves out of poverty.

You stated in your article that you are the embodiement of the American dream... which is interesting because that's exactly what Tim Scott says too. He's come to a political conclusion based on his life experiences as a black man that cannot be explained away as simply idiotic stockholm syndrome.

Just because people come to different conclusions doesn't mean that one must be right and one must be wrong. Both can be right. And both can be wrong. That's the nature of complex politics - it just doesn't play well to the Medium echo chamber (see almost every other comment)

He's a man worth listening to - I'm not saying he's right and he's defintely a man worth disagreeing with - but I am saying he isn't stupid or mentally enslaved. In the spirit of breaking people out of their echo chambers, here is his 11 minute speech. Spot the reasons he might've concluded the world works in a different way than you - perhaps the American dream is more multifaceted than we think?
