I think that’s partly true. The left doesn’t really have a coherent message whilst the right wing does. It’s not a case of voting against their own interests it’s a case of voting for the simplest message. The political left doesn’t have a clear enough narrative and is to prone to infighting.

As an example, when someone accused me of being a Republican after reading one of my articles. I informed them I was a left leaning Brit, if I was in the US I would be most closely aligned with Bernie Sanders in US politics. They then informed me it was obvious I would vote for the old white guy as this would continue upholding white supremacy. I said it didn’t matter, AOC was an equally valid choice. Her race is irrelevant to me, but Bernie stands a better chance of winning a nomination.

This left-ist ‘my way or you’re evil’ is anathema to moderate voters and soft right conservatives.
