I think the important thing is simply to defer to scientists in some matters. There might be significant advantages to being a trans-woman if you have gone through pubertry as a male. Doesn't mean that you're not a woman - it may mean that you have particular bone density/muscle twitch fibres that give you an advantage.
That advantage may not apply in say.... ice-hockey, basketball or skateboarding. It may not apply at all in many events. I would never suggest a blanket ban on anyone participating - I would suggest that scientists do their best to work out how to keep individual sports equitable and fair to all those who compete.
