I think the wider problem here is that shame as a societal primate tool does not work in the digital age - or it doesn't work on sociopaths and they have undue influence in the discourse. We must be careful with how shame is deployed, a little like how we should be careful about giving out antibiotics. I don't have the answer - I just have a neat analogy.
