I think this a gross oversimplification of the situation - you're blaming the working class here for a left-ist ideological own goal. When the left posits itself as a party in favour of selective minority interests rather than an economic model, you collapse the core support.

For the last ten years or so, the left has been playing fast and loose with identity politics. Rewriting lines of privilege away from economics and into skin colour and genital configuration. When you conflate middle class BIPOC with working class BIPOC and insist they are more oppressed than dirt poor white folks - what did you expect would happen. Of course they voted for Trump, he told them they were nice people. Everyone else told them they were over-privielged racist, sexist, intellectually inferior bigots from a bygone age.

You've identified a symptom and inferred it's the cause of the problem. It's very easy to write a populist piece that says 'Look at the stupid working class white folk voting for the orange man offering scapegoats.' - it's much harder to make a decent attempt at explaining why the left has shot itself on this occasion. Luckily I have an article for that. https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/what-we-all-lose-when-society-plays-identity-politics-397dcb896d5b
