I think this has been the way of most theoretically liberal movements since the French Revolution. I saw a lot of these groups pop up in the wake of the #MeToo and became quickly disillusioned. There was a theatre near me that ran a ‘safe space’ workshop for feminists, a few men showed up, and despite it being a ‘safe space for questions’ - they were trashed via the rumour mill for ‘not getting it’.

I think groupthink contains the seeds of its own destruction most of the time and you just have to let it play out until someone is announced to be Robespierre and the whole thing starts moving back to a centre ground common sense world.
