I think this is a very telling sentence.... Amber Heard's 'mistakes' and Depp's 'violence' - it highlights the opposite problem you've outlined in your piece.
After an entire court case in which six weeks of evidence was carefully presented, the jury listening to the evidence threw every story of 'violence' presented, because it lacked credibility, witnesses and much of the evidence had been tampered with. Evidence was also presented in which Heard admits to hitting Depp and taunting him - this isn't a 'mistake' - this is evidence of abusive behaviour an extension of which was to utilise mass media and a nascent political movement to do so. To simply refer to this as 'mistakes' is adding ambiguity in where it isn't necessary.
What her legal team attempted to do was demonstrate that his addiction issues made him violent and monstrous. On that count they failed. Depp's violence was never proven to the satisfaction of the jury.... Depp's addiction issues are essentially just that, Depp's addiction issues.
