I think this may be a little harsh and more attention needs to be paid to the nature of the crime and nature of the prison. Sending a rapist to Cornton Vale shouldn’t have happened and the procedures for admission need to be reviewed. That said, a pre-operative trans-woman who commits fraud doesn’t deserve the indignity and dysphoria generated by going to a male prison. The law doesn’t have an answer yet - and so far we’ve fudged it. Isla Bryson was a fudge too far and at the wrong time in the wrong political atmosphere.
