I think we have a different set of demographics in our two countries. The US may have run in two very separate directions and polarised, but that hasn't been my experience of the UK. I'm prepared to concede that it may just be the people I've drawn upon - but over in the UK our politics is always slightly more to the left. The left wing of our Labour Party are much further left than Bernie and our right wing politicians would sit centrally in Republican camp as relative moderates.

The Jewish diaspora outside of Israel is predominantly in the US, you've got about 51% of the Jewish people in the world (according to my very brief hunt for a figure) - whilst we've got 2%. So I imagine it's more of a hot button issue over there - and that feeds into the general level of informed your population is. My friend, who is very charming, is very much in line with my experience of the pro-palestinian left in the UK. My conversation with Safa (elsewhere in the comments) was a refreshing change from conversations I've tried to have with UK lefties who don't know any of the history or much of the political nuance but who have taken a position regardless

However, having said that,- your admonishment is fair in the context in which you offered it. I should've taken into account that the US audience might be experiencing this differently. I would have a swipe at the intolerance of LGBTQ+ rights in the same way that I've had a swipe at the intolerance of LGBTQ+ activists towards Muslim people (see my spat with James Finn). My issue isn't necessarily with the poisition that Hamas take on LGBTQ+ issues - though I would prefer it to be different obviously. The issue is that the same people arguing for Israel to be ceded to the Palestinians are the same people who would throw an absolute wobbly about pronouns. The two positions are incompatible. As I said, I'm anti-idiot.

I loved your final paragraph. I don't think I'll be getting a job at Fox anytime soon - I do whack the right on occasion.... but on Medium, you really have to hunt down those voices. Perhaps I'll get a subscription to Donald Trump's new website... not sure what he's called it, but I really hope it's Trumpton.

That's a very niche British reference.
