I think we should eliminate legacy placements first, maybe leave it a year and then eliminate AA placements. In the same way that we banned smoking here in the UK, you simply make it illegal to discriminate - which is force, backed up with financial repercussions for universities/individuals who circumvent.
I don't mind throwing religion under the bus either - I don't mind people being religious, I'm livid that we have 4 bishops in the House of Lords here in the UK. Again, religion should confer no material advantage in society and law loopholes (such as religious schools being private and having tax advantages) should be slammed shut. Then again, I'd also close all private schools anyway as I believe education is a human right not a pay-to-play system of advantage. We have 7% of our children at private schools here in the UK, but they occupy about 50% of the judiciary and about 75% of our current cabinet.
I don't mind inherited material advantage too much - but I think it should be capped and taxed. There seems to be a point of wealth past which taxation and law no longer applies, things go into trust funds and people like Lord Grosvenor (who owns most of Kensington and Chelsea) died and his family carefully skipped the £4 billion tax bill he owed through a series of loopholes, trusts and gaming the system. Here you have to pay 40% on anything above £325,000 which seems fair - and so the UK Government should've been getting a decent windfall.... but alas.
You are correct to doubt my lack of Penguinity - it's a nom de plumage. I suspect you might be a real Lisa, though your surname is giving me pause for thought. My inner etymologist is kicking me and wondering if its real or not because I'm pretty sure it's French for plaything or toy or something like that.
