I think we're okay for you guys to keep for a little while longer, they're doing so well.

I didn't give you the whole of the law, that's just the first bit. It does cover rape by foreign object - and that's in the next few sections... if you do a search for the Sexual Offences Act (2003) you'll find out all the additional details etc.

The law does have to be black and white - but there's a whole cultural thing at play here. Our most prolific rapist, recently caught and put in prison flew under the radar for a very long time because he was raping straight men, many of whom had no idea they'd been raped. His name is Reynhard Sinaga - the case was very interesting, both in timing and in context popping up in the middle of the #MeToo movement.

Civil suits can be a form of redress, but we have a Government that has cut legal aid. So it's a rich person's game to play. The burden of proof is lower in this court, so occasionally they win a big settlement. A few women have taken the Crown Prosecution Service to Civil court for their failure to prosecute and had some success- but this is relatively rare and financially very risky. We don't have quite the same sort of litigious society that you guys do. Suing does happen, but it's not quite as prevalent as a form of redress that I suspect it is in the US.
