I think you're bang on here - and I say that as a leftist. Unless the left wing can stop endorsing the lunatic fringe and tolerating their absolutely batshit alternate realities we're going to be in trouble.

For me, Trump isn't really much of a worry - it's who he has around him at the time he's pontificating. His narcissism was the biggest gift for the centre ground - he removed almost every single effective person from his own side within his first two years. That wasn't smart and probably cost him the election - but the lack of overwhelming victory for Biden should be a wake up call.

The left have to get their house in order before the right coalesce behind a talented politician. At the moment, both sides of the political spectrum are relying heavily on the ineffectiveness of the other. :o/
