I think you’ve actually identified the problem here…. Let’s presume red and blue are easily identified. If people go out and they’re red people will call them red, if people go out blue, people will call them blue. If people go out as pure purple, then people will hesitate and probably enquire.
If you’re insisting that people identify mauve, violet, indigo, maroon, orchid, thistle, heliotrope, phlox, liseran, mulberry, purpureus, eminence and mardi-gras - and these need to be remembered regardless of how close they are to red or blue in presentation, then this is a problem.
I think the OP makes a valid point… the left are simultaneously arguing for people to transition from one binary to another and also to have spectrum with no binaries - it’s inclusive, but it’s also language-power based nonsense.
