I tried to explain this to a friend earlier after she went off on one about Trump cancelling women's rights. I pointed out that he simply moved the decision from the federal to the state level - and so it was possible for people to still vote Blue and be pro-life, or vote Red and be anti-abortion. What matters really is where the voter inputs into the process - and where you wish to centralise the decision. If its like the UK (and it is) the right will attempt to resolve at a local level, the left will legislate at Government level. Trump may have created the antecedents to the current situation - but it isn't irreversible at state level.

It hadn't occurred to her that national voting polls might not have factored this in. You can still have your Trump Cake and your reproductive rights too. Also, although Trump did push this through via the Supreme Court, there's such an anti-Trump feeling about things, that people become irrational and under informed about political structures. Tis worrying.
