I went the other way. Was more than happy to call myself a feminist for a long time, and push for equality. Then there was a gradual slide towards philosophically untenable positions — such “as believe all women”. This, combined with a strong social media based undercurrent of empowered misandry (whilst occasionally justifiable) has made much of the movement retrograde rather than progressive. The world isn’t becoming more equal or safe for the majority of women, the bigger issues of female oppression are being lost in a mire of self immolation by a relatively small cavalcade of very privileged ‘feminists’. When Germaine Greer was ‘cancelled’, it was game over for common sense and many people stopped using the label explicitly when talking about these issues. Equalist works just fine.
