I wholeheartedly agree. The education system isn’t fit for purpose and the British Empire’s predilection for shooting people and starving populations isn’t widely known.

But before we throw the entire thing in the bin, we have two things to contend with. Prior to the British empire there were hundreds of other empires doing exactly the same thing. Across the world. Before we throw away democracy in a fit of historical pique and self imposed civil war, we should have a look at the other options available. Whilst the creation of liberal democracies is full of bloodshed, they offer the safest space available on the planet for individual citizens. Joe Rogan, Marley K, you and I would both be executed in Communist China and any emergent right wing state. Not for racist reasons but because we can question (and do).

We have become complacent in the west that democracy will always exist. I am less and less convinced of this fact the more the rhetoric gets pumped up to eleven.
