I wrote about this from a libertarian perspective a while ago. https://medium.com/p/6f4c776f1c50

I have faith in the ability of people to think their way out of a problem. I have no desire for the spread of disease at all. I also have no problems with enacting the consequences of free speech. I would prefer such things were enacted with due process - rather than simply firing someone because a mob can be generated on social media (I find that broadly problematic). If your company has definite policies on what it does and doesn't deem acceptable to say in public (and social media is public) then you can't complain if such policies are followed.

You can complain if it's a marginal issue.... if you're accused of being X, but it's open to interpretation I don't think you should be fired. I think companies have a duty of care to give their employees the benefit of the doubt and not have a panicked HR department - as we'll see with Disney never working with Johnny Depp in any capacity ever again (their loss rather than his).

And yes, I can imagine. I wrote a second article about that too. https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/welcome-to-the-daily-briefing-from-your-representatives-of-the-hsdgb-6829f1f2a997
