I'd argue as far as Trump is concerned we're at 1933, but unlike Hitler who managed a Night of the Long Knives thus orchestrated his own rise to power and overturned the German democractic state, the US ystem (and those in the positions of checks and balances) have been watching him and calling him out. People were flagging his coup long before it happened and fizzled out. Mike Pence did not become Ernst Rohm and people are being subpoenaed to testify.

Having unpleasant people in public life isn't the best thing in the world, but it's much better to have them where you can see them than where they can see you and you're none the wiser. It's controversial I know, but I stand by it. Freedom of speech is about watching carefully what people choose to say and who they choose to talk to. :o)
