If you are able to consider why you might not want to swap places with those less fortunate in your society, then small incremental jumps to make society better can be manifest. I'd argue this is the nature of Democratic Socialism, which avoids the lure of both free-market capitalism and state sanctioned totalitarian communism. :o)
