I'm going to kick back here - it's part of the name. I think that's a misunderstanding those on the political left have been making for some time. The opposite argument goes like this.... "I can't believe you all want to talk about gender-neutral toilets, whether Harry Potter is patriarchally oppressive, and whether White people are racist by default - whilst we're struggling to get food on the table for our children"

This is a problem.

In order to get back into the political game, the left has to start doing what it was designed to do. Build a better society. That starts with raising people out of poverty and making sure they have basic living conditions, they're safe and they're not going to be exploited. Discussions around 'common sense' only seem to be coming from those already high enough up Maslow's pyramid to be thinking about the lofty ideals of social justice.

Writing for the home crowd is going to get lots of claps, but the entire circle of clappers just failed to break through their common sense message against a convicted felon who was already demonstrably bad at the job. Consider what that means. I mean, really consider it. Perhaps they aren't entirely to blame here - perhaps there's something else at play. The left needs to introspect, recalibrate and rethink.
