I’m less worried about being cancelled, I’m sure plenty of people might try. I strongly detest the (flawed) argument that only X type of person can have insight into any given issue. That argument has grown in strength for the last 5 years and I find it disingenuous. It’s used a lot in the creative world, you must have ‘lived experience’ - even tho this is no real indicator that you’ve thought deeply about a given issue, pigeon-holes individuals to identity niches, and prevents the exchange of ideas.

I turned into the Penguin in May 2020 after I saw this argument deployed numerous times in the comments sections of the puff-woke pander-pieces which were very prevalent. Since then I have refused to comment on my age, sex, race, sexuality or any other facet of identity, it forces people to engage with what I have to say, not who they think I am. It mostly works.
