I’m not convinced any group should hold any other member of arbitrary grouping accountable for anything. This guy has a beard, shouldn’t bearded guys deal with it? That a ridiculous argument but it makes a point.
In the same way people argue that the actions of the 9/11 hijackers, the bataclan massacre and the Charlie Hebdo murder don’t apply to all brown people – the same applies here. You can’t play the old switcheroo just because it’s expedient and feels like a popular thing to say. Collective responsibility of all for the actions of minority extremists is wrong. Period.
Anybody screaming ‘racism!’ at the rise in hate crimes towards Muslims after each of those events was absolutely right. But the same is true…. Not racism of course (you can’t be racist to white people) but you can be prejudiced. This is prejudice. This isn’t a defence of any murderer, whatever their skin colour happens to be they’re nihilistic ass hats, this is about holding a consistent world view, not flowing with the zeitgeist.
Just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s right. That’s the case here.
