I'm not convinced that liberals have a lot of rage. Liberals are by nature, fairly liberal. What you've discussed here is the rage of the progressives.... and those people aren't liberal. I'd argue It is in fact their lack of liberalism which is creating the widespread defection to the political right.

As a general rule, democratic societies tend to sway liberal in the fullness of time. Societies become more equitable because of the push/pull of Conservatives and Democrats finding centre ground. What social media has done has empowered a new political group to emerge. They want change and they want it now! They want change on everything and right now. Furthermore, if you don't capitulate to the immediate demands for change, you're a bigot and a dinosaur. This isn't liberalism - and becuase it's more often than not based in identity rather than financial means, and a plaything of university campuses and the middle class - it often ignores the economic underclass as well. Meaning it fails to be left wing too. It's a right wing authoritarian argument masquerading as left-wing liberalism - and real liberals, and poor (mostly white, mostly working class) people are abandoning it in droves.

Joe Biden has courted them but can't enact any of their policies, becuase they're a confusing mess of contradictory demands. The right are simply sitting still and collecting the defectors. The more progressives continue to push and pull in batshit directions. The more they attend talks by Greta (where she shouts at people but has zero policy insight) and the more they vote in fringe middle class representatives on single issue ideas, the more and more likley they make the arrival of a demagogue who learned the lessons Trump was too narcissistic to understand.

America has forgotten the meaning of liberal and that makes me very afraid for the continuation of democracy. Many people reading this are going to presume I'm a Conservative because I've come out fighting against the progressives - they're wrong. https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/the-penguin-political-compass-is-complicated-and-controversial-dc04f4267b96
