I'm not going to bother defending Andrew Tate because the man is clearly an ass - but I am going to point out that his mass appeal seems to have come in the wake of a world that has turned its ire upon men in general. I don't know what the world expected was going to happen to young impressionable men when the vast majority of liberals decided to hold them all accountable for things that previous generations have done. When has putting all the kids in detention ever been a winning strategy for combatting the behaviour of a few. Any attempt to push back was seen as further evidence of their toxicity.
Every movement creates a little bit of pushback, the more batshit you let your movement become, the more pushback you create and the more ideologues and demagogues emerge....and, as a general rule, the less pleasant they are. Any chance of engaging with young men on the complexities of consent, on the nuances of psychological difference between men and women was squandered fairly early on. I saw it happen in real time with the most strident and radical feminists in any group of friends dominating the conversations and setting the agenda. This was very prevalent in the world of theatre where I work. Moderate men and women both disengage when this happens.
Young men want to be young men and that discussion hasn't happened yet. We needed to re-mold what that means for the modern age and put in systems and understanding... instead we got the Heard/Depp 'guilty at the point of accusation' debacle, the attempt to remove Joe Biden via outright lying, some fairly horrible things written and said about men in general, and 'Men Are Trash' stickers. https://www.redbubble.com/shop/men+are+trash
If young men refuse to be whatever women want them to be (and I'm not sure women as a collective know what they want young men to be) then they're going to start looking for answers elsewhere. Men generally think hierarchically and what you have with someone like Tate is a beacon of capitalist 'success' in a world full of people struggling to find meaning. I don't think he has THE answer, but I think he has AN answer - and that's dangerous, because unless some alternatives are provided (aside from shouting at men for the amusement of other women) - it's only going to get worse.
