I'm not questioning the legality of what Rittenhouse did. That's for the court to decide and they have. The court case and evidence has been looked at and the conclusions have been drawn by the jury. The rest of the world isn't debating whether or not Rittenhouse acted in self-defence (we know he did), the rest of the world is wondering why a child was at a riot. It's baffling.
In the UK, showing up anywhere with a gun and then firing it (even in self defence) would likely result in a conviction for manslaughter. You showed up armed, you escalated the situation by doing so. That logic doesn't seem to apply in the US.
With regards the adulthood begins at puberty.... I disagree. The age at which you can vote, drive, have sex and own a weapon should be adulthood - and that should be 18. Across the board. If you want to make the argument that 'adulthood begins at puberty' then you've just made a grey area for sexual predators. 18 seems reasonable and sensible as a standard for 'adult behaviour'.
