I'm with you on the marriage thing... I'll campaign for equal rights for everyone, but why anyone would want to appropriate marriage is beyond me. It's always seemed retrograde to me.

LGBTQ+ culture has now been commodified and is sold to straight people in an easily digestible form. It's interesting to watch... I don't go to Pride because I think it has very much lost its way in the modern world.

I do find the separate bathrooms things quite amusing and interesting... because, as you've pointed out, they're divided along heteronormative lines - and society has to adapt around that or ignore it. I suspect most people ignore it - and I'm happy taking my feathers off in front of almost everyone. Not an exhibitionist, just a pragmatist. Others I suspect would prefer individual cubicles, which seems like the perfect solution. I have no idea why we have to debate bathrooms at all - my house has had a mixed gender bathroom for many years and we've all managed to get by with occasional arguments about seat positions.

The Trans-Men thing is interesting and I did consider that when I was writing this article. I think the answer comes down to a perceived imbalance of power. For women, allowing a trans-woman into their world can be potentially disempowering... something they would perceive as a threat or an appropriation of a protected status. For men, having Trans-men join them posits no imagined or perceived threat. Trans-women is an issue for feminists to consider whereas Trans-Men could theoretically be perceived as 'levelling up' out of an already existing power imbalance. This gets complicated when you have LGBTQ+ retreats for gay men who don't want to include Trans-Men. The whole thing is very complicated and just needs a fuck tonne of sitting down and good faith discussions. That doesn't seem to be where society is heading at the moment.
