In a system that involves multiple groups of people, you should speak to everyone involved and seek out the most intelligent and insightful responses. There are insights to be gained from discussion from all parties, how those insights are weighted and the order in which you get them may be important — but presuming that white people have nothing to add about racism is counter intuitive and just plain wrong. Ideologically popular perhaps, but still wrong.
