In the interests of balance. I’d say across 2020, around 90% of the sociological pieces curated on this website and promoted by the publications were from this perspective. It was the dominant narrative – and one which ran based on pluralistic ignorance.
Lots of my audience held private disagreement with many of these positions but saw no opposing views anywhere at all. Now they do.
Before I was a professional writer, I was also a teacher (for about a decade) – and I watched the capacity of my students to talk or debate and disagree fall off a cliff. I also watched their anxiety rise and strong friendships wither over simple and easily resolved disagreements. So perhaps there is a little personal stuff in there too.
