In the U.K. in 2016, the childless Theresa May ran for the PM against a woman with children, experienced politician and political heavyweight Andrea Leadsom. Leadsom used the fact that May never had children as an attack point during the leadership campaign. She was roundly condemned by everyone from all the main British parties, the media and the general public – subsequently Theresa May emerged as the winner and eventual Prime Minister of the U.K. I’m not saying that the form of sexism you’ve outlined doesn’t exist. I’m saying that perhaps it doesn’t exist to the extent you believe it does. I think the average progressive thinks the situation is far worse than it is and awards the demos less respect than perhaps they should be given. Most of the centre ground couldn’t care about the family life, childcare or children of politicians one iota.
