Innocence doesn't require proof, innocence is the presumed state. You are innocent until proven guilty. He was innocent, they charged him for a crime and he was found to 'still be' innocent of those crimes - though he may of course have committed other crimes he wasn't charged for and may be guilty of moral transgressions that exist outside the sphere of legal remedy.

You have presumed anyone who is charged must be guilty, even if they're acquitted. That's not how the law works.
