Interesting article. I have chosen not to identify as a feminist and prefer the term 'gender egalitarian' - and that is because I think far too many people are incapable of telling the difference between what is empowerment and what is not. I think feminism has become confused about which direction it is pulling as the complexities of society start to see it fracture into different factions. What does feminism do when confronted with Trans-Women? Is there a hot take - or are there two competing arguments in place?
And I think, in writing this piece, you've identified one of the things I think is wrong with feminism. It creates an 'us vs them' mindset. Men on one side, with their faults, women on the other with theirs. Instead, I eschew identity altogether (I'm a Penguin) and I believe in gender egalitarianism which is perhaps slightly different from simple equality.
