Interesting discussion to which I'm not going to throw myself - however, almost everything behind the Iron Curtain and (arguably) West Germany is an example of how territory can be gained in a defensive war.

I think it's more than possible to win territory in a defensive war provided you have outright victory and can set the preconditions for continued peace. I think history will throw up plenty of examples of this outside of the one I have provided.
