It depends. If he was a mentally unwell teenager then he has probably had enough psychological support and intervention to ensure he can go out into the world and make amends. If that’s the case, the murder is a social problem, not an individual problem and society needs to examine its role in failing to prevent such a tragic event from happening.

There is of course the possibility he is a seemingly-repentant psychopath who has learned what to say, when to say it and how to get people to do what he wants. Society doesn’t have an answer for what to do with psychopaths who have already killed - he will likely do it again and needs to be incarcerated for life.

Telling the difference isn’t always that easy. Hope he’s surrounded by experts.
