It has been sad to watch America sink in the world's eyes. If you'd asked any British kid across the 1990s if they wanted to move to the US, the answer would've been an unequivocal yes. America was more exciting, more vibrant, where all the cool TV was, where all the cool culture was happening. Slowly, and particularly since the advent of social media, it's become evident of the cost of the American Dream - on a societal and individual level. The lure is wearing off and I'm worried kids around the world are now looking at China in the same way - their tech cities, the economy, the seeming ease with which they can do infrastructure projects. That too comes at ac cost, one exactly the opposite of rugged individualism, collective submission.
