It's a difficult dilemma for writers - many of the people who select and decide what gets made are in the middle class self-flaggelating white, or bourgouise BIPOC. This is entirely their cup of tea - and if there's a market for it (and there is) then someone will come along and create it.

Personally I can't stand any form of creative writing that beats you over the head with a message and woke shows are particularly bad with regards to this. Quite often the first thing to be sacrificed is narrative, that's followed by character and then dialogue - everyone simply becomes a simplistic mouthpiece for a political position and the whole thing goes nowhere. It happens in theatre all the time.

The real trick here is whether they can get the stories back in and make it compelling. If they can't, it'll die a death... and when it is cancelled, that'll be labelled as racism. Lee Daniels has good form as a producer, if a somewhat questionable personal life from time-to-time - so I'm confident he can put a team of writers together to make it something more than woke porn. Fingers crossed.
