It's a difficult one anything that moves away from the binary choice will be good for US politics.. Over in the UK (Where I am from) we have a three party system, where the smaller group, the liberal democrats occupy a centre ground position. I think this would be a better system than ranking for the US.
It would mean that the left of the Republican Party and the Right of the Democrat Party would need to band together to form a more centrist party and let the fringes of their party go. You might then get a three party system that works.
You'd have Trump Pence et al in the 'New Republicans', with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren leading the 'Progressive Democrats'. You'd then get a better understanding of how the US votes and I think there'd be a strong centre party. I think you'd still end up with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris but a more interesting senate and house.
Something is going to have to give I think. :o/
