It's a fairly logical argument to make (at least I think so) if calorie restriction isn't the principal reason behind weight loss then we would expect some Jewish folk deprived of food in the concentration camp to have maintained their weight. It's possible that some did maintain weight better than others initially, but after a few months a lack of calories wins out above all else. Pointing something out does not make an individual an asshole - but people don't enjoy it.
